Multi-task machining is performed by CNC machine tools that are capable of doing part machining in a single setup, that would normally require multiple setups on a simple mills and lathes. MTM machine tools come in many different configurations, including multiple spindles, multiple turrets/gangs/slides, sliding headstocks (Swiss), and rotary axis live tooling (mill/turn). The simplest exaple of an MTM machine tool is a lathe or Swiss machine tool, with a sub-spindle. The other extreme includes machine tools with 5-axis rotary milling and multiple, independent turrets, or a machine with dozens of spindles.
GibbsCAM now has a new Multi-Task Machining optino for programming MTM machine tools. This new option adds to GibbsCAM's already world-class Mill and Lathe programming capabilities. A very flexible capability to define these widely varying machine tools is provided, so that specific machine capabilities can be supported correctly. There is no limit to the number of axes, flows, spindles, turrets, gangs, slides, and controls that GibbCAM can support. A graphical Sync Manager is included for programming and optimizing multi-flow, simultaneously-cutting machine tools. Special machining cycles have been incorporated for machine tools that can use multiple tools at the same time. All cutting is graphically displayed with GibbsCAM's Cut Part Rendering capabilities. A high level of programming support is provided for all of the ancillary devices these machine tools may have, such as bar feeders, bar pullers, robot arms, parts catchers, part grippers, and pick-off spindles. GibbsCAM's post processors configured for your machine tool, will output the correct program, exactly as displayed on the screen, without the need for user editing.
